چکیده

Symposium title: Non-invasive brain stimulation in pediatric epilepsy: Diagnostic, biomarker, and therapeutic applications of TMS description: Many diagnostic approaches for epilepsy require invasive approaches. However, populations, non-invasive are preferred. Hence, centers have begun using the (NIBS) technique transcranial magnetic (TMS) functional, mapping eloquent cortex prior to surgery. few epileptologists familiar with broader scope clinical NIBS technology. The neurophysiologic principles behind make it a unique tool examining cortical/circuit excitability network connectivity that disrupted by syndromes. derived parameters cortical can quantify nature neuronal dysfunction, disease progression, responsiveness pharmacological nonpharmacological treatments. Concurrent EEG including direct current (tDCS) measure how alters connectivity. Finally, repetitive tDCS protocols alter excitability, thus providing novel, treatment. Speakers will review basic tDCS, exciting research these techniques define pathophysiology various symptoms, studies assessing effectiveness treatment refractory epilepsy, status epilepticus epilepsia partialis continua. Non-invasive Functional Brain Mapping Using Registered Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

We describe a method for mapping the functional regions of the brain using a transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) device. This device, when placed on a subject's scalp, stimulates the underlying neurons by generating focused magnetic eld pulses. A brain mapping is then generated by measuring responses of di erent motor and sensory functions to this stimulation. The key process in generating ...

Transcranial magnetic stimulation and its applications in children.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) provides a non-invasive method of induction of focal currents in the brain as well as transient modulation of the function of the targeted cortex. TMS is now widely used as a diagnostic tool in adults. In children, its application to date has been limited, even though TMS offers unique opportunities to gain insights into the neurophysiology of a child's b...

Human Brain Mapping Using Structural and Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Modern brain research methods such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) have provided essential information of the structure and function of the human brain. However, to be practical in clinics, they need to be optimized for the clinical environment and to be easy to use and robust. At the same time, the re...

Mapping interhemispheric connectivity using functional MRI after transcranial magnetic stimulation on the human auditory cortex

Interhemispheric interactions can be important in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) studies investigating motor or cognitive brain functions, but their role in predicting the outcome of TMS is not clear. Previously, we showed that individual differences in interhemispheric functional connectivity of auditory cortices influenced the behavioral effect of repetitive TMS (rTMS) applied over a...

Probing thalamic integrity in schizophrenia using concurrent transcranial magnetic stimulation and functional magnetic resonance imaging.

CONTEXT Schizophrenia is a devastating illness with an indeterminate pathophysiology. Several lines of evidence implicate dysfunction in the thalamus, a key node in the distributed neural networks underlying perception, emotion, and cognition. Existing evidence of aberrant thalamic function is based on indirect measures of thalamic activity, but dysfunction has not yet been demonstrated with a ...
